A quick look around my shop will evidence how much I love to work with Liberty Tana Lawn fabric, and when you work with so much of it, you inevitably build up lots of smaller offcut pieces. Now, I believe that people refer to these very small pieces of fabric as ‘scraps’ but that’s a word I can’t bear to associate with my beloved Liberty lawn, which I like to think of as ‘size challenged pieces of delight’.
Now I think I’ve found the very best way to treasure and celebrate these size challenged pieces of delight and whenever I find a perfect little piece, I set it aside so that I can add a protective sealant to it and set it behind a lovely domed glass cabochon, either as a brooch or a bookmark. These brooches are very simple ones set with a simple pin on the back, which you can see in the photographs. They’re great to wear as a straightforward brooch or pin on your lapel or handbag, but would also be really useful to hold a scarf or shawl in place too. I treat the fabric first to protect it and then set it in the metal brooch tray and cover it with a domed glass cabochon. the metal brooch trays come in black, silver, bronze and gold colours, which I select according to the fabric I’m using.
The brooches come on a white card, but if you add the gift wrap option to your order, your brooch will be presented in the white box shown in the last photograph, then wrapped in gift paper and a ribbon added.
I’ll be refreshing my stock of brooches as and when I make more. They’re not something that I make to order because they’re pretty time consuming to make with the drying time of sealants and glues, but if there’s something in particular that you’d like made, just convo me and I’d be happy to oblige, if I can.
Please bear in mind that each brooch is hand made and therefore, there can be slight variations in how the fabric was positioned in the brooch.
