Description
This shawl is a little different in a number of ways from my other silk shawls. It is made with a blended 65% silk and 35% baby camel yarn, which gives it a little more substance and warmth than pure silk – still amazingly light and silky to touch, but with an added softness from the baby camel fibre. It is also a little smaller at 180cm long and 41cm wide, but it is crocheted in the same lace pattern as the other silk shawls I make and can be worn in a variety of ways.
The yarn came from the same artisan yarn dyers as the other silks I use but this was a very special limited edition batch and I managed to get the very last skein of this colour, so this shawl is very much a one off. The colour is ‘dusty dried bluebells’ and the natural variagation of colours in the yarn ranges from almost cream through to lavender – very pretty.
As with all silk yarns, there is a lovely silvery sheen to this yarn, particularly when under stronger light. The stitch pattern I’ve used creates ripples and waves throughout the length of the shawl and because of the lovely light nature of the yarn, it falls is lovely soft folds; even on the edges of the shawl, which are perfectly straight – silk moves with an elegance all of its own.
