When a client introduced me to these two fabrics, they reminded me of seeing The Shining at the cinema so many years ago and I had to make this murderous bag!
The typeset ‘REDRUM’ print is a very direct reference to the movie of course and it immediately has the little boy’s strange voice chanting the word going through my head! The contrast fabric at the bottom was named ‘Redrum’ by the designer and is based on the carpet seen on the film at the Overlook Hotel. Creepy, and I like to imagine myself riding a tricycle on it with a squeeky wheel…
The bag is a perfect size for a smaller project – certainly large enough for a shawl but compact and squishy enough to take with you in a larger bag when you’re on the go. You can see the dimensions of the bag in the last photograph.
I’ve lined the bag in a bright red cotton and added a yarn guide with metal press stud opening in the side seam. The corners have been folded to create pretty triangle shapes that flatten the bag and help it stand on it’s own so you can work out of it. The drawstrings are a lovely soft cotton woven cord in a matching red shade, and I’ve sealed the ends by adding some matching fabric tape, for a tidy finish.
All the fabrics have been interfaced with woven cotton for strength and to help resist creasing a little, and I’ve added a layer of fleece for a little more body and padding. Please note that the fabric placement in the photographs is of one sample bag, and your bag could look slightly different, depending on how the fabric is cut but you’ll certainly see the REDRUM text.
