This little coin purse is the perfect size to pop into your pocket with a little cash, a key and maybe a lip balm, when you want to travel light. It’s also a great way to wrap up a money gift for a birthday or holiday gift.

I’ve made the purse with a gorgeous Liberty Tana Lawn print called ‘Betsy’, in three different colourways. This stylised small floral design was designed for Liberty in 1933. The only clue we have of who designed it are the initials DS. DS (the same initials as me – love that!) designed many favourite Tana patterns and Betsy has been on Classic Tana since 1982.

The outer of the purse is interfaced for strength and I’ve added some soft fleece to give a puffy effect that feels nice in your hand. The inside of the purse is lined with a soft deep purple cotton, strong enough to stand up to those coins jiggling about.

The engraved metal frame of the purse is a bronze colour and I’ve hand stitched it into place using a toning perle cotton in a purple shade.

The purse measures 8cm (3.25 inches) across at the top of the frame and 10cm (4 inches) across at the bottom, where I’ve boxed off the corners to give a little depth to the bottom of the purse of 3.5cm (1.5 inches). It stands a little over 9cm (3.5 inches) tall, which is just right to carry a credit card or two.
