Sloth brooch – heart shaped hand stitched fabric brooch featuring a sloth, in blue or red colourways with a wool felt backing

As you’ll know if you’re a sloth lover, they usually love to hang on to tree branches, but these sloths want to hang on to you!

I’ve made these cute little fabric brooches using Sarah Watts’ ‘Lazy day’ fabric from her Honeymoon collection for Cotton & Steel. The front of the brooch features a sloth that I’ve cut into a heart shape and then hand stitched onto a bright jungle green pure wool felt backing, using perle cotton. Both fabric pieces of the brooch are interfaced for strength and to avoid fraying, which adds a little soft padding to the piece too. I’ve also added some rigidity by sandwiching a piece of heart shaped mountboard between the two layers and there’s a bar brooch on the back with a safety clasp, which I’ve also invisibly stitched to the felt backing, to keep it firmly in place.

The brooch is available in either the blue or red fabric colourway – the blue has a deep pink perle cotton blanket stitch around the edge and the red has a bright green, but if you’d prefer a different colour thread, just let me know when you place your order. It measures 2.75 inches or 6.5cm, at the widest point.
