snow sparkle slipper

Description

White felt looks like snow – don’t you think?  And have you ever noticed those amazing pearly and iridescent colours in snow that you get in certain lights?  I so wanted to create something that captured that kind of effect, which is how this decorated Christmas Stocking was born.

I’ve decorated each side of the slipper with two shades and sizes of appliqued felt stars, which are blanket stitched into place with contrasting embroidery thread and then hand beaded.  At the top of the slipper, I’ve threaded a satin ribbon in a matching colour and stitched on a diagonal line of iridescent sequins.  The brim of the stocking is also decorated with blanket stitches in contrasting embroidery thread.

The slipper itself is made with 40% wool felt and everything is hand stitched.  It is fully lined with the same felt to give it shape and substance, and has a hanging ribbon attached.  The slipper comes in two shapes: a ‘boot’ shape with a fully fashioned foot, which is a little larger at 34cm high and 22cm along the foot.  The slightly smaller (and certainly more delicate looking) ‘pixie foot’ slipper is 31cm from the top of the leg to the heel, and the foot measures 17cm.
